Giving women an extra edge to flatter their bodies is the mantra of designer Kaycian Bourke, whose flowerchild::1999 pieces collection oozes an eclectic mix of 60s and 70s bohemian vibe — one that is textured, flowy and easy to wear. Little wonder really that the brand, created in 1999, continues to bloom. Her current Flourish line designed for, according to the designer, “a modern hippie who seems to always be going to a music festival or somewhere cool and chill”, is inspired by the ambitious, 30-something year-old woman in transition. For Bourke, a super-busy, hands-on mom herself, clothing has to be “functional yet trendy” .
“ My clients,” she states, “want practical chic.”
Indeed they do, and using on-trend tassles the designer has incorporated it into her basic dresses, tops, pant sets, and even bags, to add a level of sophistication. The lemongrass dress with black tassles is the standout piece from the collection as, because of the length, it can be dressed up or down and is perfect as a beach cover-up. The fallen leaves dress with love tassles in olive green is perfect for both the Easter and Carnival weekends.
Each limited edition handcrafted design is made in Jamaica. Flowerchild::1999 is available by custom order.
